“lift yer head” The One Night Concert with the Eraserheads

Finally, they are back! It took almost a decade for this band to be reunited again. The much awaited reunion concert is now confirmed and I bet this is going to be a great event. I was still on my 4th grade in my elementary when this band starts topping the charts and every body seems to be moved with their songs. There is no doubt that Eraserheads have been part of the lives of the every Filipinos.

It was in the mid-90’s when the band become popular. Everyday, you can hear their songs being played on the radio, wherever you go. And I’m sure if i-Pods and MP3s are already in style during those days, their songs were going to be the on of the most downloadable item. I think the reason why most Filipinos love Eraserheads, just like me, is because their songs resembles the life of the ordinary Filipinos plus the fact that each rhythm and lyrics is very much catchy that even kids can sing it.

The band is composed of four young ordinary college students from the University of the Philippines namely Ely Buendia (vocals), Raymund Marasigan (drums), Buddy Zabala (bass) and Markus Adoro (guitar). Actually, the band Eraserheads is just a product of two different bands in the university. Until one day they have decided to form a group of their own. Being a greenhorn in the music industry, the way to success has never been that easy for the band. But with the talent and perseverance that they have, they manage to climb each step on to be on top.

Eraserheads have been considered as one of the most successful band in the Philippines. Aside from receiving platinum records, their singles have been popularly used as commercial jingle and movie themes. The band even made their career to a greater extent when they grabbed the 1997MTV Asia Viewer’s Choice Award that was held at Radio City Music hall in New York. They were actually the very first Filipino artist to receive the coveted “Moon Man” trophy for that particular award giving body.

But unfortunately, after all the success that they had, the band breaks up in the mid-2002. The vocalist, Ely Buendia leaves the band with unknown reasons. After the sudden band break up, the other guys of the band, Marasigan and Zabala, continue their careers in the limelight but with other established band in the country. Then, later after leaving the Eraserheads, Buendia form a new band. First, are the defunct Mongols and now is with the group named Pupil.

However, even if they are now performing under different groups, there are still many people who wish to see them again perform. August is said to be the Eraserheads month. The Fort Bonifacio open grounds will definitely be invaded by the fans of the band that have waited so long for them to sing their songs once again. Hearing their music once again is just like reminiscing every pieces of memory that have been associated with their songs unintentionally. Eraserheads had been touched the lives of many Filipinos with their songs. This one night event will surely leave a remarkable impression to the audiences.
