The Girl from the Province, no Longer a Novice

Shocked! That was the only thing that I felt when I first got here in Manila. Actually, I’ve been here for many times but I haven’t got the chance to really live in the city. I have relatives in here whom I visited a time or so, but I always declined top their request to stay with them, and spend maybe a couple of days or so with them. It’s not that I don’t like it but I’m not really used to it. Until the time wherein I have to face the truth that I have to move in the metropolitan center due to some circumstances.

At first, I find it hard to adapt with the environment. The urban living is very much different to the life that I had in the province. I grew up in San Pablo City or I should say the City of Seven Lakes in the province of Laguna. Imagine, I have spent 24 years of my life with the calming views of the nature and the in one glimpse… boom! The sceneries are changed to crowded streets, traffics and high rise buildings. But ok, I have to calm myself; this is just part of what they say “the growing up years”.

It seems to be a challenge for me top left my family in the province and deal with my life in urbanity. Luckily, my aunt offered her place fro me to live in. Actually, as time goes by, I’ve already adapted in the situation. I manage to wake up early so that I can avoid the “high tide” thingy in our place. Or else I will go to the office with feet. I learn to jump off the furious jeepneys in the road so I can avail the next trip on LRT. I also save the coins on my purse so that drivers will not have a hard time giving me change whenever I pay. I’ve learned the use of umbrella and a bag this time as I always carry them whenever I left the house.

But aside from these things that I have acquired while staying here, I can say that these things somehow encourage me to develop more as a person. Every day, I was faced with a new challenges incorporated within this urban life, but I also get the chance to know myself more and what else are the things that I am capable of. I also met a lot of good people here in my new “sanctuary”. So, every time I go back at Laguna, I bring home with me a lot of great stories and new experiences that I had here.

It is true that my life here in Manila is very much diverse with the kind of life that I have in our province. But at least I have the chance to see the best of both worlds.
