Bottle Madness

It’s been a year since I first collected bottles. Well, there are many kinds of bottles though but I prefer the wine bottles. Anyway, that’s the only type of alcoholic beverage permitted to drink inside our house in Laguna. My mom loves to collect different types of liquors but just to display them in the cupboard. But after all the drinking sessions, one time, I found those wine bottles very interesting.

An idea was created inside my mind, and I have to start doing something just to make that idea come into reality. Those bottles are a very good subject for my next art project. I, first start collecting the bottles at home. I seek every corner of the house just to find the previous bottles. Unfortunately, the corks were already lost but anyway, it is such a simple problem to handle.

One of the hardest part is the cleaning. But I already manage that problem especially the removing of the labels. Here is trick… soak the bottle in a vinegar water solution for some time. I’ve already read this idea from a magazine and it was really good.

So, after all the cleaning of the bottles, here comes the interesting part. How will I make these bottles come into life again? My some sort of creativeness and a bit of patience is the answer to this question. I just let my hands do the job on this. The designs may vary, depending on the materials available. My mom used to sew gowns so we have a lot of beads around, I just string them all together and wrapped around the bottles’ neck. The raffia cords were left overs from my brothers’ school project. I have hard time gluing it to that bottle, I swear! Then my favorite design… the eggshell spirals. I crushed those eggshells and put it on the bottle following a particular design. And just because this is a junk art thing, I assume that all the materials that I will be using came from junk. And Voila!!! I’ve created another masterpiece. Lol!!!

The reason why I share this story is not to promote my artistic ability, (as if I have?!) but to show how things are going to be useful again, aside the fact that they have already been part of our trash. Just a simple thing to help our mother nature. Be responsible enough to keep our environment healthy. Let’s do our part before it’s too late. Well, in my case I'm looking forward for my next junk art project.
